Bits of Bliss: DIY (7 ingredient) Honey Oat Bread

There are few things that are more satisfying as a parent than to see your child sit down and choose to eat a healthy breakfast. Am I right!? Just knowing that my little guy is getting some great “fuel” to start off his day really makes me feel like I’ve had a parenting win! What’s even BETTER is when he himself gobbles up his food without a fight or argument. For me, there is nothing better than starting off our day by enjoying each other’s company over good food. It really sets the tone for the rest of the day! That’s why I just adore (and HAD to share) this delicious and easy bread recipe I found on Pinterest from the website bakingdom.com.

I have now made it a good handful of times over the last year or so, and this bread is gobbled up by every person I have ever served it to. I seriously can not keep a loaf on the counter for more than a few days. The only downside to this recipe is that you can’t just make the dough and pop it into the oven, you have to allow it to rise twice (and sometimes that can take up to an hour or an hour and a half for each rise). So you have to stick close to home and plan on just having a baking day. For me, each loaf takes a minimum of 3 hours to make. But it’s totally worth the wait! It really is that delicious!

There are two main reasons I decided to try making my own bread. The first is because my favorite bread (Miltons) had a price tag of almost $5 a loaf. My head just spun at the idea of spending that much money on a weekly household staple. Even the “cheapest” wheat bread that I have found is $1.99 a loaf, and I know it certainly does not cost that much to make it.  The second reason I decided to start making my own bread was the sheer amount of ingredients (that I could not pronounce) within each loaf of my favorite “healthy” bread. For a while I could  justify spending the money on one loaf of bread because it was “healthy”. Or at least that’s what I thought until I actually started reading the label and I was astounded at the laundry list of ingredients that were in it! While the bread tasted good, I had no idea what some of the ingredients were that I was putting into my families bodies. We still eat store bought bread often, but I now always check the ingredients and I urge you to do the same. Be aware of what you are putting into your body, and proactive about your health!

What’s great about this bread recipe that I’m sharing with you today, is that there are only 7 ingredients!  And it’s easy to substitute ingredients to make it allergy and gluten free! (So instead of using flour, you could use a gluten-free flour.) A huge plus is that there are no eggs or sugar in the recipe! So try it out and let me know what you think! I promise you’ll love it just as much as we do!
